Playing American Football The Correct Way
The game of football in the United States is a staple American sport. This is not to say other sports like basketball or hockey are not as popular. It is hard to describe the feeling that you sense when you are with people that love football. This is not only professional football, but college level and high school football teams are also very popular. There is much to understand for those learning the game, and of course each player must work to become physically fit and ready to play. Usually under stadium lights, football is played at the end of the workweek for fans in the bleachers or on TV.
What position you play in football depends upon your strengths and your agility. Running backs are typically agile and fast, built for speed and distance. When you play football, or watch it on TV, always look for the running back behind the quarterback. Blocking and protecting the quarterback is another function of this position. Quarterback handoffs to the running back are often used for these misleading kind of plays. There are many more possible plays that a running back may do to help win the game.
Of course each team has offensive and defensive players. Depending on the play that the quarterback calls, the defensive line can be large or small. So you may see up to six players lining up on the defensive line. The defense must be able to handle the offense effectively not allowing them to gain any additional yards. Another job that the defense has is making sure running backs on the offensive side don't go anywhere. It is also important to try to find ways through the offensive line to make sure the quarterback can't move the ball. A coordinated defensive strategy that is often used is running at the quarterback so he backpedals back up the field.
There is always something changing on the field if you know what to look for with American football. Each team has its plan, but everything is subject to immediate change. Sometimes this game is about experience and educated guessing as you try to predict what the other team is going to do. Linebackers on the defensive side are the main component of the team used to get to the quarterback. If the offensive team is known for Hail Mary passes at the end of the game, the blitz will occur. The trade-off is the blitz can leave the defensive field open, and if it is stopped there can be a successful pass with large gains. Of course there are many rules among all three levels that overlap or are the same. So, the process of a player moving between levels should be relatively easy and there shouldn't be any issues. Your coach will always be the absolute best source of information when learning to play football.
